Bone Graft

Bone Grafts

Bone grafts are used to strengthen the jaw bone and prepare for a dental implant. In this procedure, an opening is made in the gums and jaw bone. Then, bone granules are packed into this opening, which is then sanitized and sutured. As the area heals, new bone will grow around the bone granules, strengthening.

What happens after the bone grafting procedure?

During the bone grafting recovery process, you will be given antibiotics to prevent infection and in some cases prescription pain medication. However, most patients only need over-the-counter pain relievers, if anything. The healing process takes approximately three months, although it could take longer depending on the patient.

Once the bone tissue is fully healed, you’ll be able to schedule your dental implant surgery.
